Local advice on art visits

If you’re exploring art in Belize City, don’t just stick to the main streets. Take a slow walk around Albert Street and the nearby George Price Centre on a weekday afternoon. You’ll find murals behind nondescript buildings and often local artists working on their craft. Sometimes you can even catch informal exhibitions that locals talk about but aren’t widely advertised. Also, check if there’s a Baymen Cultural Festival or Garifuna Settlement Day event happening during your visit. These can shift your understanding of Belize’s culture beyond galleries into the streets and rhythms of the community. And for a more intimate connection, try to attend a studio open house or artist talk, you’ll get the real stories behind the art.
