Description
Welcome to the Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave, an awe-inspiring journey into the heart of Belize’s ancient history and natural wonders. Prepare to be amazed as you venture deep into the Maya underworld, where secrets, artifacts, and breathtaking formations await. Unique Experience: The ATM Cave, also known as the “Cave of the Stone Sepulcher,” offers a one-of-a-kind adventure. It’s not just a cave; it’s a revered site where ancient Maya ceremonies took place. Mayan Artifacts: Discover ancient Mayan artifacts hidden within the cave’s chambers. From pottery shards to ceremonial vessels, each piece tells a story of the past. The Crystal Maiden: Witness the mesmerizing “Crystal Maiden,” a calcified skeleton of a young woman. Her remains have fused with the cave’s mineral formations, creating a haunting yet beautiful sight. Sacred Burial Place: The ATM Cave served as a sacred burial site for the Maya people. Explore its chambers and learn about their spiritual practices and rituals. Expert Guides: Our licensed guides are passionate about Belize’s history and culture. They’ll share fascinating insights and ensure your safety throughout the tour. What to Expect Hiking: You’ll embark on a 45-minute hike through the lush Belizean rainforest to reach the cave entrance. The trail involves some uneven terrain, river crossings (you’ll cross the Roaring River three times with the water at knee height), and moderate uphill sections. Cave Exploration: Once inside the cave, you’ll wade through shallow water, climb over rocks, and navigate through narrow passages. The cave floor can be slippery, so sturdy footwear is essential. Swimming: At certain points, you’ll need to swim short distances (usually no more than waist-deep) to explore deeper chambers. Basic swimming skills are helpful but not mandatory. Climbing and Crawling: As you delve deeper into the cave, you’ll encounter formations like stalactites and stalagmites. Some areas require climbing or crawling through tight spaces. Guided Experience: Your licensed cave guide will provide instructions, ensure your safety, and share fascinating insights about the cave’s history and significance.Includes
