Because of the diversity of the landscape, the population of flora and fauna is equally as varied. Some inhabitants include six species of cat that are native to Belize, manatees, crocodiles, and sea turtles. Guests are able to arranged diving excursions with local tour guides, and camping is permitted.

Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve and National Park is situated 5.7 miles south of Xcalak, a town in Belize; it's 20.7 miles to the north-northeast of San Pedro. Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve and National Park is set on the most northern point of Ambergris Cay and is only accessible by boat.
