Description
Recognized by National Geographic as a top sacred cave destination, Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) features crystalline stalactites and stalagmites, serving as a natural museum of ancient Mayan culture. Known as the 'Cave of the Stone Sepulcher,' it offers a unique experience combining adventure and history.
Located within the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve, this guided trek takes you through jungle paths and river crossings, revealing cave formations and Mayan artifacts, including the famous calcified human remains called the Crystal Maiden.
Start your experience by checking in at our office, where the guide will provide a full briefing. The tour includes a 1.5-hour drive to the ATM parking lot, with a grocery store stop for additional supplies. At the parking lot, you will be equipped with helmets, headlights, and lifejackets before a 45-minute walk to the cave entrance, crossing the river three times. Assistance is available for non-swimmers.
Once at the cave entrance, you will swim into the cave and begin exploring the depths of Xibalba, guided by knowledgeable local experts.

- The Government of Belize prohibits all electronic devices inside the cave.
- The tour operates rain or shine unless the cave is closed due to high water levels; in that case, rescheduling or date changes are allowed.
- Bring a change of clothes to stay comfortable and protect vehicle seats from getting wet.
- Socks are required for preservation purposes.
- Wear closed-toe shoes with good grip that can get wet; sharp rocks are present inside the cave.
- Pickup scheduling may incur extra costs depending on location.
