With lagoons, islands surrounded by palm trees and mangroves, the reserve is home to a wide variety of species. Visitors will find beautiful reef fish, manta rays and seabirds. Less common, but still possible to observe are sharks, manatees and crocodiles.

This park has a lot to offer. Adjacent to a parking area, steps lead to the pool that gives the park name (not to be confused with the other blue hole on lighthouse reef. The stairway leads down through the forest, and birds can often already be seen resting on over-hanging vines, especially emerald green jacamars and blue-crowned motmots.

Gazing out over the Mopan River Valley, stands Xunantunich, one of Belize’s most beautiful and mysterious ancient Maya Sites. The site’s modern name, pronounced zoo-nan-tun-ich, means ‘stone woman’. It references a local legend of a ghostly belle adorned in white, scaling the steps of El Castillo before disappearing into the stone face at the top.

Government House BelizeBelice, Belize City
Built between 1854 and 1857 as a Her Majesty’s Prison while the area was still a British colony, it was a replacement for a wooden prison nearby. It was the Belize City Prison until 1993, when prisoners were then transferred to the Hattieville Prison In 2002, it was restored and renovated into a national museum.

The name may be slightly misleading -- there are no hot springs at Aguacaliente Wildlife Sanctuary -- this protected area is a great destination for birdwatcher and lovers of nature attraction in general.
Between the years of 350 BC and 250AD, Cerros was an important trade center in the Maya community. It is, in fact, the only coastal ruin to be unearthed to this day. Strategically placed at the mouth of the New River, this site would have given an immediate link to the coastal trade route of many other Yucatan peninsula settlements.
